Sharp - Not learning from our wrong-doings

We do something wrong and we are guilty, offended, and sometimes horrified. Do it again and you will get used to it. Eventually you will become proud of your behavior or thoughts. And, finally, you will brag about your exploits and put down those who do not do what you do.

(I first read about this sequence in the writings of Phillips Brooks, 19th century preacher and writer.)
