A non-response to an event is often more impactful than the event itself.
What I see all the time in people is disassociation--instant, unhelpful, ignoring reactions to what is often almost a tragedy. And the person doesn’t even seem to notice the discrepancy between the event and their response, and so they cannot imagine there is another way to be, another way to go through life.
Yes, we all have our own lives to lead and we cannot be everyone’s Messiah. However, it is so easy to be numb, overwhelmed, inattentive, and distancing.
